The Iberian Peninsula was the center of Zellige — a type of tile that drew heavily from Islamic, Roman, and Byzantine tile patterns. Spain and Morocco share credit for popularizing handcrafted Zellige tile. But the Moroccan cities of Fes and Meknes are known as the centers for Zellige and the inspiration for this necklace by Paloma Picasso which came while restoring a tile fountain at her home in Marrakech.
